Debbie Webster was under intense pressure in Coronation Street tonight (Wednesday, January 14) as she agonised over one huge court decision.
With her court appearance looming, Debbie found herself pulled in all directions by the people closest to her. Everyone seems to have an opinion on what she should do, but Debbie made it clear she won’t be pushed into anything.
Time is fast running out though, and later this week she’ll be forced to make her choice as she takes to the stand. So where will she land?
Debbie’s family tries to sway her plea decision in Coronation Street
In tonight’s scenes on the cobbles, Debbie’s loved ones all tried, in their own way, to influence her next move – guilty or not guilty.
Michael paid Ronnie a visit and gently encouraged him to open up about how he was coping. Ronnie admitted he feared Debbie wouldn’t follow Adam’s advice to plead not guilty. He confessed he felt like he was going to lose her either way – whether that was through the court case or her dementia diagnosis.
Kevin later dropped by to see Debbie himself, but the conversation quickly went off track. Debbie immediately laid into him over his ongoing feud with Carl, though she did eventually accept his apology.
That evening, Ronnie confronted Debbie head-on, asking whether Kevin might be right about Carl framing her for the car accident. Debbie refused to believe it, insisting she was responsible for Billy’s death.
When Ronnie begged her to plead not guilty, Debbie shut the conversation down. She made it clear the decision was hers alone, explaining that she wanted to hold on to her autonomy for as long as she could.
Debbie goes to court in Coronation Street spoilers
Later this week, the pressure on Debbie only intensifies. Ronnie admits to Michael that he’s terrified Debbie will ignore everyone and plead guilty – a choice that could cost him the woman he loves. The strain is clearly taking its toll.
Things boil over when Kevin turns up at the flat, determined to get through to Debbie. But before the situation spirals, Ronnie steps in and forces him out, knowing Debbie is barely coping as it is.
Carl Webster then adds to the tension, pushing Debbie towards pleading guilty and taking the blame. Bernie, however, arrives just in time with a much-needed dose of perspective, reminding Debbie that Billy’s death was a tragic accident – and that Billy himself would never want her to ruin her life over it.
With Ronnie and Bernie urging her to fight, Carl growing increasingly desperate, and Debbie caught in the middle, whose voice will she finally listen to when it matters most?
