Roman Kemp has revealed his famous dad Martin recently suffered a “horror film” injury caused by a chainsaw.
Singer Martin was reportedly at home in Hertfordshire with his wife Shirlie when he sustained the bloody injury. According to Roman, Martin ran into Shirlie ‘screaming’ after the accident and was later rushed to hospital.
Roman Kemp on dad Martin’s gruesome injury
On his You About? podcast, Roman recalled his father’s worrying injury. Chatting to his co-host singer Tom Grennan, Roman showed a picture that his dad sent to the family WhatsApp group, which was captioned: “Yep chainsaw.”
Tom asked: “What the hell has happened to your dad’s fingers, because that looks like a horror film?”
Roman then said: “Friday night, I’ve just finished work and my dad’s sent a picture of his hand and it’s like, all his fingers are heavily strapped up and it’s like the claw.
“All bandaged up, bits of blood, and all he writes underneath is: ‘Yep, chainsaw.’ I literally messaged back like: ‘What?'”
‘Why are you handling a chainsaw’
Roman then revealed that he and his sister Harley sent messages of concern to their dad – but he failed to respond. Roman then ended up calling Martin himself.
He continued: “I said: ‘What are you doing?’ And he goes: ‘Oh yeah, it’s not bad,’ and it’s all this type of stuff. I said: ‘What did you do?’ And he goes: ‘There was a bit of branch that we wanted chopping down.’ That’s my first issue, why are you handling a chainsaw, you’re in your late sixties now.”
Martin ‘lucky not to lose a hand’
Roman also revealed: “Do you know what he said? ‘I picked it up from the blade and it didn’t have the sheath on it.’ He said it switched on… he’s picked it up and it’s kicked into gear.”
Tom then went on to say Martin was “lucky not to lose his hand”. He added: “I know a mate who lost a finger through that.”
According to Roman, after his injury Martin “screamed” and ran into his wife Shirlie with blood pouring everywhere. He was then taken to hospital for a tetanus shot and we presume some stitches!
