Today’s edition of BBC Breakfast saw Heston make an appearance on the show to discuss his bipolar diagnosis.

Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition that causes extreme shifts in mood, energy, and activity levels.

For years, Heston believed he was simply “wired differently.” However, after a manic episode in late 2023 escalated into psychosis, Heston was admitted to the hospital.

“How did I get to 57 years old before I was diagnosed?” he can be seen asking in a new documentary about his diagnosis.

He opened up some more about it during today’s chat with Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty.

The documentary will show Heston having a conversation with his son about his bipolar diagnosis.

“It was very emotional,” the TV chef said. “Difficult. But precious.”

Heston went on to say that he wasn’t aware of how being bipolar affected his son and his family because he wasn’t aware he was bipolar until his diagnosis.

“Having had the diagnosis, I learned a lot more about the effects of bipolar,” he continued.

When asked about his situation now, Heston explained that he’s on medication.

“I take my medication religiously, I have psychotherapy, and my moods go up and down,” he said.

He then revealed that before medication, his ups and downs were more up. “I thought I could solve the world’s water crisis,” he then said.
