Coronation Street and Emmerdale fans have wondered how the crossover will work for viewers of just one soap.
While many fans are excited about the prospect of their two favourite ITV soaps sharing an episode, others are concerned.
They’re worried that their lack of knowledge of one soap could ruin their enjoyment of the episode.

Coronation Street and Emmerdale fans worry about soap crossover episode
A one-off special crossover episode, titled ‘Corriedale’ is set to air at the start of January to mark big changes for ITV soaps.
As ITV introduces ‘soap power hour’ to the schedule from 2026, a huge stunt will air to celebrate the changes.
The episode will see characters from both Coronation Street and Emmerdale interact in rare scenes.
However, some fans have expressed concerns that they might not understand what’s going on due to only being frequent viewers of one of the two soaps involved.
Taking to social media, one soap fan said: “If you only watch one of these soaps, you will have no idea on half the characters and half the storylines. It is going to be awful.”
Another complained: “I don’t understand the reason behind the Corriedale crossover. Surely it would only work if viewers knew who all the characters are. I used to watch Emmerdale but don’t know the new people in it so they won’t mean anything to me. And vice versa.”
A third person also had concerns over the episode: “Not really sure what to expect from Corriedale. I guess it could be a great idea or just awful viewing. We wait & see!”

ITV soaps reassure viewers in response to doubts
With fans worried that they’ll be really confused over the storylines happening in Corriedale, ITV has reassured them that they’ll be helped get up to date with the goings on in both Emmerdale and Corrie beforehand.
Responding to one worried fan, the Coronation Street social media account commented: “Keep your eyes peeled closer to the time for some handy guides on what you need to know for the ep! But you don’t have to watch Leslie, we won’t force you.”
In another reply, Corrie also continued: “We’ll do our best to fill you in on what you need to know beforehand, but it’s just one episode so you’ll be able to keep up for sure.”
The Emmerdale account also added: “We will help bring you up to speed closer to the time as well.”
