Amanda Owen on incident that saw son Miles collapse at home
In a post for her 533k followers to see last night, Amanda shared some snaps from an emergency with son Miles that happened at their remote farm.
Amanda shared a string of snaps, including one of Miles receiving oxygen from medics in the family home. Other snaps showed Miles being carried via stretcher to a waiting helicopter, and close-ups of his bandaged hands in the hospital.
“Tonight’s episode of Reuben Owen: Life in the Dales is a challenging one,” Amanda captioned the post.
“It has taken until now to share what happened in December 2022 when there was a big medical emergency on the farm,” she then continued.

Amada details Miles’ hospital dash
The star continued: “Miles @milesowen86 wanted to share what happened to him to hopefully raise awareness of Type 1 diabetes and Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), which is a potentially life-threatening acute complication.
“Do tune in at 8pm on Channel 5 for an uplifting glimpse of how, in difficult circumstances and locations, individuals can change the narrative of a story and save lives.”
Channel 5 and Amanda also shared a video from last night’s show, in which Clive Owen and Amanda opened up about Miles’ “scary day”.
Speaking to son Reuben, Clive detailed how he found Miles collapsed on the stairs at home, “struggling to breathe”.
“There’s something majorly wrong here,” Clive recalled thinking. “So, panic stations,” he then added.
Amanda then chimed in, saying it was “definitely an emergency, but we didn’t know to what degree”. However, they did know that regardless of its severity, it would take two hours to have got him to the hospital in the car. “We’re very remote,” Clive said.
The air ambulance managed to take Miles to the hospital in just 17 minutes – a journey that could have taken hours by car.
“Big relief,” Amanda said. “You do think ‘thank goodness for that’,” Clive then added. Miles added that it was all a “blur” to him but he’d like to thank the medics who saved his life.

Viewers show their support
Fans of the show took to the comment sections of Amanda’s posts to show their support.
“How frightening coming in the door to see your son lying like that. Good to see Miles is okay,” one fan commented.
“Omg sooo glad he’s okay. Love this show and family. He’s such a sweet and polite young man,” another added.
“Well done, Miles, for sharing. I don’t think diabetes is taken as seriously as it should be,” a third wrote.
“This is so brave and honest of Miles to share this on TV. I am diabetic too, and sometimes I think diabetes is so misunderstood, especially by people who don’t suffer from it nor have anyone close to them with it,” another said.
