Emmerdale Moira: What happened between her and and mum?

Moira was born in Scotland on April 25th 1971.

She grew up with her mum, dad and brother Mackenzie. However their father was regularly violent towards their mum.

In 1989, Moira’s dad discovered his wife was having an affair with his best friend Tony after discovering Tony’s watch in the bathroom.

He confronted Anne over dinner in a fit of rage.

Moira knew her dad was likely to kill her mum if she didn’t cover for her.  So she told her dad she was the one having an affair with Tony.

Her family shunned after this and she fled to England where she met her first husband John.

She went on to have three children with John, Holly, Adam and Matty. John died in 2012.

Moira married Cain Dingle in 2014 and they have a son together called Isaac.

Mackenzie’s arrival

Moira’s brother Mack arrived in Emmerdale last year to tell his sister that their mum had died. He was angry at Moira for leaving him to cope with it alone.

Ever since Moira has felt terrible about not making things up with her mother before her death.

However, actress Natalie J Robb has hinted that all might not be as it seems…

Mackenzie was so angry with Moira he even kidnapped Cain Dingle to hurt her. So it’s possible that he lied about their mother’s death.

Speaking to ED! and other media in 2020, Natalie was asked if she wanted the rest of Moira’s family to turn up.

She answered: “Yeah, why not? As long as they’re not all going to hate me!

“It’d just develop everything more and Moira can become a little bit more colourful, having her family and siblings around her, it’s quite a nice feeling.”

She added: “It’s good because it may explain a lot over why Moira is the way she is and perhaps why she’s so protective of her children.”

Does this mean her mum might not be dead and could be coming to the Dales one day?

Fans also have a theory that Mackenzie was lying and that Moira’s mum is still alive.

“Moira abused, so Mac her son? #Emmerdale,” said a second.

A third said: “This is going to be Moira’s son not her brother ain’t it #Emmerdale.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm.
