Emmerdale viewers may remember that not too long ago, Belle hid a huge secret from the Dingles about what happened on the night of Craig’s death.
She had rejected Tom’s proposal, prompting him to lash out with Belle hitting her head.
After that moment, fans started to become concerned that a domestic abuse storyline was in the pipelines for Belle and Tom – but Eden Taylor-Draper and James Chase have now shut down these predictions.
Emmerdale: Tom lashed out at Belle
On the night of Craig’s death, Belle had been at home with Tom. He had then surprised her by proposing to her.
However, Belle didn’t think that it was the right time for it given that the family was caught up in Lydia’s upset.
Tom didn’t like Belle’s rejection and started to lose his temper before starting to head upstairs.
As Belle tried to calm him down, Tom then lashed out and pushed Belle. This caused Belle to hit her head and fall to the ground.
Tom immediately tried to apologise to Belle, worrying that she’d leave him. Later on, after Craig’s death, Belle kept this part of her night a secret from the rest of her family.
James Chase and Eden Taylor-Draper address fan concerns
Tom and Belle stars James Chase and Eden Taylor-Draper have now spoken out and have addressed fan fears for their characters’ relationship.
With a Christmas proposal on the way, the actors have assured fans that a domestic abuse storyline isn’t on the cards for the couple.
Speaking about the incident, James revealed: “It was just something that happened unfortunately but I think it just shows how strong their relationship is but also how wonderful Belle is that she’s able to move past that.”
“Just like right now, how romantic and lovely this [the proposal] is, I think that’s where they’re headed.”
Eden added: “From that moment on they’ve been on a good path.
“It was a freak incident. It shows how good of a person Belle is that she was able to forgive him for that.
“It’s one of those things where she’s very quickly forgotten that.”
Confirming that Belle and Tom are looking towards a happy future together, Eden revealed that Tom is the ‘love of Belle’s life.”
