Wayne Lineker issues heartbreaking update following health battle: ‘Toughest six weeks of my life’

Wayne returned to hospital after 'suffering a severe second attack'

| Updated:

Businessman Wayne Lineker has issued a health update after battling Pneumonia for the past six weeks.

The 61-year-old, who is the younger brother of iconic footballer Gary Lineker, has unfortunately been in hospital due to the horrid infection.

On December 2, he shared a video on Instagram where he said the “last 16 days have been the most traumatic of my life”.

“A truly near-death experience. I honestly don’t think I would have been medically strong enough to survive it if I wasn’t four months sober,” he continued.

“To the incredible NHS staff who cared for me: thank you. Those two words don’t feel enough, but I mean them with all my heart.”

Wayne Lineker issues update on Pneumonia battle

Last week, Wayne shared another update with his 1.1 million followers. After being sent home from hospital, he was forced to return following a health scare.

“Unfortunately, after being discharged from hospital last week with antibiotics and further medication, I was only home for four days before suffering a severe second attack,” he explained.

“While being cared for at home by my son @seanlineker1 I had to be taken back to hospital by ambulance – thank goodness he was there.”

However, in a more positive update today (December 24), Wayne has revealed he has finally beaten Pneumonia. Sadly, he will have to miss out on Christmas as he has to remain in the hospital until after the big day.

“After undoubtedly the toughest six weeks of my life I will go home Boxing Day. Unfortunately, I will spend Christmas Day in hospital as I have two days left on my IV course of antibiotics,” he said.

On the plus side, he said he is “very happy” to be on the mend.

‘You can have Christmas whenever you want!’

Despite missing out on Christmas, Wayne’s followers were relieved to hear he will finally be home soon.

“The best news… thank goodness you are now out of the woods and on the road to recovery. Wayne 2.0 is loading,” one user wrote.

“Merry Christmas, mate, and congrats on another battle won. Wayne is baaaaaaack,” another person shared.

“Good news. You can have Christmas whenever you want!” a third remarked.

“Merry Christmas Wayne. Take care and treat Boxing Day as your Christmas Day! So glad you are winning the fight against pneumonia,” a fourth said.
