Once upon a time, superstar Victoria Beckham had a very interesting exchange with King Charles, then the Prince of Wales.
Today, Victoria, 51, is making headlines for her new Netflix show. But 25 years ago her chat with Charles raised eyebrows when our now monarch made an eye-popping suggestion.

Victoria Beckham ‘shut down’ King Charles’ idea
It is the year 2000, and Victoria is making her maiden showing as a solo artist at Party in the Park. The event was held in London’s Hyde Park and raised funds for The Prince’s Trust charity (now called The King’s Trust).
Posh Spice was debuting some of her new tracks, alongside the likes of Sir Elton John and Christina Aguilera.
All the while, then-Prince Charles was watching on.
I was telling him how I was really nervous about performing.
Afterwards, he took the opportunity to converse with the performers. It was there that the royal made an interesting suggestion.
As reported by the Mirror, Victoria explained that she confessed to the royal: “I was telling him [The King] how I was really nervous about performing because this was the first time I’ve appeared before 100,000 people.”
She then curtailed the monarch’s suggestion.
Victoria added: “He asked me how Brooklyn (her son whom she shares with David) was getting on, and then he asked if David and I had any plans to do a duet. I said, ‘No way’ to that.”
Oh dear!

The Beckhams’ bond with the royals
These days, the Beckhams share a bond with the royals.
In 2024, David was announced as an ambassador of The King’s Foundation, the charity that runs Highgrove.
He has even held private meetings with Charles.
David was knighted in June and notably made headlines in 2022 when he queued for 13 hours to see Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin lying in state, following her death that September.
The couple were also in attendance at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in 2011 as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s nuptials in 2018.
Posh was even made an OBE in 2017, for her services to the fashion industry and charity work.
On the day of the king’s coronation in May 2023, Victoria posted a string of snaps with King Charles.
Victoria Beckham gushes about King Charles
Victoria and her fellow Spice Girls could be seen grinning beside Charles. One photo also saw Victoria holding hands with a young Prince Harry.
The star gushed in the caption: “I have so many fond memories of meeting His Majesty throughout my career, and he is always so supportive and kind. Today is a truly historic day, and I’m incredibly humbled to celebrate King Charles III and Queen Camilla as they embark on their new roles.”
This week, Victoria has captured the heart of observers again with her new show on Netflix, Victoria Beckham.
She said that fans will get a glimpse of who she was before the fame.
“That uncool kid at school that was awkward, that was me,” she said. “But I desperately wanted to be liked [and] have a sense of worth.”
