Vick Hope reveals ‘truth’ behind worrying ‘collapse’: ‘I don’t think I can move’

'It had gone too far'

Vick Hope has revealed she ended up “collapsing” after experiencing burnout in the early days of her career.

The presenter, 35, has become a regular on TV screens in recent years. From stints on Strictly to Countryfile – which returns tonight (May 25) – Vick has kept herself busy.

However, when trying to make a name for herself, Vick ended up taking on “every job under the sun” – something that would have scary and concerning consequences for the star.

Vick Hope on ‘not knowing the word no’

It’s fair to say Vick’s career is going from strength to strength. However, according to the woman herself – who also co-hosts the BBC Radio 1 drivetime show – it hasn’t always been an easy ride.

Speaking to The Independent in April, Vick shared that in a bid to make her name for herself in the broadcasting world, she did “every job under the sun” at the start of her career.

She explained: “I didn’t know the word ‘no’. I think in 2018, I took three days off – including weekends – the whole year.”

Vick added that she “was getting up at 4am every day” for work at the Capital Breakfast show and “hadn’t seen my my family for so long”.

She continued: “You feel like, if you stop, the wheels are going to come off. But the truth is, if you keep going, the wheels will come off anyway.”

Vick ‘collapsed’ as was unable to move

However, the former Strictly Come Dancing star – who appeared on the show in 2018 – then went on to recall a rather worrying incident that was down to her working all of the time.

“I remember collapsing, I was with my mum and I was like, wow, I don’t think I can move. I don’t know what’s wrong with me. She was like, you’ve exhausted yourself. She asked: ‘What are you chasing?’ It needed to get to that for me to realise it had gone too far.”

Vick’s baby news

In other Vick news, earlier this month, she announced she was expecting her first child with superstar DJ Calvin Harris.

Vick wed the Scottish DJ in Ibiza back in September 2023. The couple are notoriously private about their relationship, and last month she sparked pregnancy speculation.

However, on May 19 Vick officially confirmed her pregnancy.

On the BBC Radio 1 Going Home show, she told co-host Jamie Laing: “I should probably also say this is my final week before I go on maternity leave.”

Jamie replied: “You’re an amazing friend, an amazing person, and you’re just going to be an amazing mum.”

Vick then said: “Oh, thank you.”
