Why Shaun Ryder’s scared to stop weight-loss jabs after shifting two stone

He's concerned he'll balloon to '26 stone' due to his health conditions

Shaun Ryder has shared the reason why he is still on weight-loss jabs despite slimming down significantly.

The Happy Mondays singer, who has also starred on I’m A Celebrity and Celebrity Gogglebox, has shed more than two stone since being prescribed the drugs and says he has no intention of giving them up.

Why Shaun Ryder is staying on weight-loss jabs

Speaking to The Sun, Shaun explained why he is still using the jabs.

“When you’ve got an underactive thyroid, if you just had lettuce and strawberries, you’d still be 26 stone,” he claimed, adding he’d only stop if he started to look like a “screaming skull”.

“There’s a lot of people that take those jabs and they look more unhealthy and they’re too thin. You look like either a baghead or a crackhead,” he said.

Shaun admitted that he is on more drugs nowadays than he ever has been, but that they are all “legal and very healthy”.

He also confessed that his stint on I’m A Celebrity… South Africa in 2023 was a wake-up call to him to re-evaluate his health. Now 63, he suffers from full-body alopecia, hip problems, thyroid problems and testosterone problems.

“Basically, the jungle slapped me right across the face and said: ‘Calm down mate,'” he said.

Shaun Ryder’s health woes

Shaun has been open about his health struggles in recent years.

Speaking to The Guardian in 2021, Shaun shared: “I’ve got hereditary thyroid problems and once that goes, it controls everything. The hip is the same – my mum has two fake hips.”

He also recalled how he had developed alopecia after he was forced to stop using testosterone gel prescribed for his underactive thyroid.

“My blood cells were all turning white or turning red or whatever. I think the specialist must have panicked because she didn’t want the stroke of a celebrity on her hands. So they stopped it, and within a week I had no beard, no hair, no hair on my body, the lot!”
