JLS star Oritsé Williams’ ‘miracle’ baby rushed to hospital with suspected sepsis and meningitis

The JLS singer also gave fans an update about his social media absence

| Updated:

JLS singer Oritsé Williams has revealed that he and wife Kazz rushed their baby boy to hospital this week after he showed signs of meningitis.

The pop star withdrew from rehearsals for the upcoming JLS tour following the emergency. In his latest Instagram Stories post on Monday (October 27), he updated fans on the situation.

“I’ve not been too well, I’ve also just been taking care of my family and really and truly focusing on what is important,” he said. “Social media, that’s secondary to what really matters.”

Oritsé and wife Kazz rushed son to hospital

On Monday, Oritsé opened up about the struggles both he and his wife have faced as their one-year-old son Shiva was admitted to hospital.

“Yesterday he got readmitted into hospital. He’s caught a viral infection, and the temperatures went to dangerous heights,” he told The Sun.

“They started throwing around words that really scared us, like meningitis and sepsis and stuff like that, so I literally cut out of rehearsals for the [JLS] tour.”

He added: “I just literally got in my car, and I messaged everyone to let them know where I was, and I just dropped everything. I went to the hospital to be by my wife’s side and this week, because he’s been ill, I haven’t been able to sleep through the night at all.”

Previous heartache

The 38-year-old musician married wife Kazz in 2022. The couple openly shared their experiences of miscarriage before welcoming their “miracle” baby last year.

Because of their past heartbreak, they chose to wait before announcing their baby news. When they finally revealed the pregnancy on social media last October, the JLS star wrote: “Overwhelmed with emotion, love, and awe, words can’t express how I feel about my Queen, my soulmate, my hero, and stunning Mama Kazz.

“Her strength, her sacrifices, and everything she’s overcome to bring us to this point leave me in absolute wonder. This journey has tested us in ways I can’t describe, but her courage has shown me the true depths of love and resilience. We’re embracing this sacred time together in our little family bubble.

“Our hearts are overflowing with gratitude for everyone who has stood by us and continues to surround us with true love and support. Your kindness carries us, and we are forever thankful to you.”

Oritsé also has a 10-year-old son from a previous relationship.

‘He is truly a blessing’

The JLS singer revealed that he and his wife welcomed their baby boy on October 3, weighing 7 lb 8 oz. They named him Shiva Zion Olumidé Williams.

He told OK!: “Honestly, I’m on cloud nine. I’m in complete awe of my baby boy — he’s truly a blessing, and I’m so proud of us.”

Explaining the meaning behind the name, Oritsé said: “Shiva is one of the highest deities in South Asian culture. It represents the destroyer of darkness and negativity, and the creator of all things beautiful and hopeful.

“Zion is a name we’ve both loved for a long time. It means a place of unity, peace, and freedom — something that resonates deeply with Caribbean culture and my African roots. Finally, Olumidé is one of my middle names, and it means ‘my hero has come.’ Together, the names reflect our South Asian, Caribbean, and African heritage.”

Oritsé found fame on The X Factor back in 2008, as part of JLS.
