Former Coronation Street star Lucy-Jo Hudson has opened up about her previous health scare which left her “struggling to breathe”.
The actress was rushed to A&E two years ago after battling with her “mental and physical health”.
There, it turned out she had chronic anaemia and needed two blood transfusions.
And on Tuesday (June 10), Lucy reflected on the ordeal to mark National Blood Week.

Taking to her Instagram, Lucy shared a worrying photo of her in a hospital bed.
In the caption, the former Coronation Street favourite spoke about her health battle and the importance of blood donations as they ‘saved her life’.
“Not my usual Post. But with it being National Blood Week I wanted to share something with you,” Lucy said.
“2 years ago I was rushed into A&E, I was constantly exhausted, running on empty, struggling to breathe, low mood, really struggling in my overall mental and physical health, and I just put it down to the fast pace of ‘life’.
“Because in today’s world you’re expected to be able to juggle it all right? And the daily stresses of being a working mum, and spinning a million plates is blumming stressful….. but what I didn’t realise is that the reason I was feeling all of this is because I had an underlying health issue… ‘Chronic Anaemia’.”

Lucy needed two transfusions
Revealing what the next steps were, Lucy then continued: “Which meant I was in desperate need of a blood transfusion (hence why I got rushed to hospital)
“It turned out that my haemoglobin levels were that dangerously low I needed 2 transfusions. And I was kept in hospital for a few days so they could keep an eye on my levels.”
The actress went on to praise the “amazing” staff at Salford Royal Hospital. She also applauded the team in the A&E department as well.

Lucy on blood donations
“So I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to each and every one of you who donate blood! What you do is truly amazing. I know from the NHS that just one of your donations can save up to 3 lives… Mine included,” Lucy also said.
Sharing the importance of blood donations, she then explained: “Blood donations save lives every day. They are needed in emergencies, during operations, childbirth, in the treatment of cancer and sickle cell disease, the list is endless.”
She then said: “So this is a thank you to those selflessly giving blood that helped me and thousands of other people who really needed it.”
