Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has taken to social media to update fans on her health ahead of the new series.
Throughout her tough battle with cancer, Amy had to step away from the dancing show. But in February of last year she was given the all-clear and returned.
However, she had to pull out of the 2024 series due to health issues. So now that she’s back, Amy has been updating fans on how she is keeping.
Amy Dowden’s ‘heart sank’ at hospital
Taking to social media late yesterday (August 28), Amy revealed she had another routine hospital appointment. But was deeply affected by something she heard from the doctors.
She posted a video from her car after the appointment. Amy said: “Good morning all. I just wanted to come on and firstly say hello. But I have literally just finished my appointment. And as always, it’s so lovely to see the wonderful Sheldon unit.
“As I always say, they are the real life superheroes. Everybody is who works on that department.”
However, Amy found herself upset after hearing just how busy the unit had been. Because that means more and more people are needing help.
She continued: “I went in and asked how it’s been in there. They all said it has been ridiculously busy. And my heart just sank for them. That means more people are needing treatment and more people are being diagnosed with cancer.”
Amy issues plea to her followers
After hearing how busy they were, Amy wanted to reinforce how important early diagnosis is.
She explained: “It had me feeling low. But then I realised how important it is to raise awareness and to share my story.
“Remember if you’re not checking yourself, then who is? Early diagnosis can save lives. Please, please, make sure you’re looking after yourself. You know your own body better than anyone else.”
She ended her post praising the healthcare workers for “working so hard” to save lives.
Amy will be taking part in this year’s Strictly, which starts very soon. And it has an amazing line-up.
