An emotional Amy Dowden has issued a statement following the tragic death of a cancer campaigner.
The Strictly star herself has faced the disease, with Amy revealing in May 2023 she had been diagnosed with grade three breast cancer.
Fortunately, by February 2024, Amy announced there was “no evidence of the disease” left in her body after a mastectomy and chemotherapy.
However, at the weekend, Amy shared her heartbreak after hearing the news that fellow breast cancer campaigner Sophie Busson had passed away.
Amy Dowden reveals sad cancer death
On Sunday (July 20), Amy took to her Instagram Story to share her condolences after the death of Sophie Busson. Sophie – who, like Amy, hailed from Wales – was a charity worker and had cancer twice.
The Strictly star re-shared a post by Sophie’s family and wrote: “Sending so much love and strength to your twin, your husband, boys, family and friends. Fly high, darling, thank you for all you did and will continue to do for the breast cancer and cancer community.”
She also issued another message about Sophie, alongside a montage of photos of Sophie. She penned: “Thinking of these gorgeous twins. The news has hit me hard as I can relate so much. Sending love to all, but especially Steph.”
Sophie’s family are ‘heartbroken’
Sophie’s family announced the sad news of her death on Instagram.
They uploaded a black-and-white photo of Sophie with the dates 1986 – 2025 written across. In the caption, they wrote: “The time we hoped would never come, arrived last night with our beautiful Sophie passing away peacefully.
“She had us both by her side until the end and we take comfort in knowing how much she was loved. She was an absolute fighter until her final breath.”
Her loved ones added: “We are absolutely heartbroken but she will always be with us forever in our hearts. All our love, Gareth, Steph and her boys.”
