Susanna Reid shares concerns over her weight as she admits she has ‘no energy’ to exercise

She's previously run two marathons and several 10k races

Good Morning Britain star Susanna Reid has opened up about her weight loss, insisting she “barely” works out.

The breakfast TV fave, 54, has previously spoken about dropping one and a half stone – and was said to be an “avid runner” who continued to enjoy dance workouts following her 2013 stint on Strictly Come Dancing.

However, while the GMB co-host reckons she has found the right balance for her fitness, Susanna admits she could benefit from further lifestyle changes.

Susanna Reid on her weight loss

Susanna – who has previously run two marathons, two Great North Runs and several 10k races – told Woman & Home she feels her “muscles are declining”. And that could be due to her unwillingness to exercise.

I barely do any exercise. It’s the one casualty of my current work-life balance.

She shared: “I barely do any exercise. It’s the one casualty of my current work-life balance. Like everyone, I can spend an hour on the sofa doom-scrolling, and if I got myself into gear, I could go to the gym for that hour. I just physically find it impossible. I don’t have the energy.”

She added: “I have done a lot of exercise in my life. I’m hoping that will keep me going, but I know from Instagram reels that it doesn’t! My muscles are declining and I should be eating more protein.”

She also highlighted her battle with her weight, and how it’s one she’s struggling to win.

“If I had a superpower, I would resist ultra-processed food. I’ve just turned 54 and it doesn’t seem to matter how good I am about food, I don’t seem to be able to defeat it [her weight],” she said.

What has Susanna Reid said about her weight loss?

In July 2024, Susanna was reported to have credited cutting down on alcohol as the primary reason for losing weight. She told how she quit drinking around six years ago as she “stopped enjoying it”. Her doctor also recommended she cut down “for the sake of her skin” after she developed rosacea.

“I prefer life alcohol-free,” Susanna said. “It’s tiring and the hangxiety got to me. I don’t feel like I can plough on after pints of Guinness the night before.”

She also revealed at the time: “It turned out that I was at the upper end of my BMI and, I have to admit, I’d been feeling a little heavy for a while. I’ve lost a stone and a half since then and I feel fantastic.”

However, now she says her body has got used to her consuming less calories as she wasn’t consuming them through alcohol. And, as a result, she thinks her body went back to its “set point” – something she calls “annoying”, adding that “life is for living”.
