Martin Clunes is set to appear in a new US remake of Doc Martin.
The actor played socially awkward Dr. Martin Ellingham for 10 series of the comedy-drama show that spanned across 18 years. But in 2022 fans were left gutted when the final series aired.
However, it has now been announced that actor Martin has joined the new US remake of Doc Martin.

Martin Clunes to appear in Doc Martin remake
The new US remake of Doc Martin is called Best Medicine. The Fox series follows the life of surgeon Martin who abruptly leaves his career in Boston to work as a GP in a fishing village on the East Coast, called Port Wenn.
However, Martin Clunes will not be reprising his role as Martin on the show. Instead, the character will be portrayed by Josh Charles.
As for who Martin plays, he’ll be taking on the role of Martin’s father, Dr Robert Best, an accomplished gastroenterologist.

Martin’s character is ‘hiding a few secrets’
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Robert follows his son to the fishing village. But his arrival ruffles some feathers among the people living there, including his estranged sister played by Young Sheldon actor Annie Potts.
Robert’s character description reads that he “is hiding a few secrets of his own that could turn Martin’s new life upside down, and force him to confront his past”.
New Doctor Martin actor Josh Charles is best know for his roles in The Handmaid’s Tale and The Good Wife.

Who is in the new Doc Martin remake?
Meanwhile, the rest of the Best Medicine cast also includes Abigail Spencer, Josh Segarra, Annie Potts, Cree, Didi Conn, Clea Lewis, Stephen Spinella, Jason Veasey and John DiMaggio.
Executive producer Ben Silverman previously said: “The entire Propagate team is thrilled to be working with Fox Entertainment on this extraordinary adaptation by Liz Tuccillo of the global hit Doc Martin.
“Josh Charles is the perfect lead for this brilliantly character-driven comedic procedural. Best Medicine is a world we’ll all want to be part of.”
Following the news of the Doc Martin remake, fans quickly shared their thoughts – and they are not impressed.
Online, one person said: “Love Doc but the character will get lost in translation and the network is unfortunate.” Another added: “Personally, the last thing we need is a “US remake” of that wonderful British show.”
A third chimed in: “You just can’t replace Martin.”
Someone else proclaimed: “So they’re going to try for an American version of Doc Martin? Even with Clunes cast as his father…it will fail.”
A fifth penned: “Why remake a wonderful classic, its charm was its location and the characters found there.” A sixth also declared: “Another potentially disastrous attempt to remake a successful international comedy series. They’ve tried and stuffed it up before. I would have hoped that Martin Clunes would have been better advised.”
