TV star Dr Amir Khan opened up about his mum’s health for the first time during a special episode of Loose Women today (August 6).
The show, which was named Loose Doctors and received some backlash from viewers, saw Dr Amir joined by Dr Nighat Arif, Dr Zoe Williams and Dr Hilary Jones.
All four doctors are regulars on ITV’s famous daytime shows, where they provide help, health tips and advice to viewers.

Dr Amir Khan opens up about mum’s brain tumour for the first time
During an emotional part of the show, Dr Amir opened up about his mum’s health for the first time. While doing so, he fought back his tears.
“I haven’t talked about this publicly before, actually. My mum, who I call ‘Mumma Khan’, has an active brain tumour. She was diagnosed, I think, a year or so ago. I think I’m going to get a bit emotional, actually!” he said.
While composing himself, Dr Amir continued.
“So, she had a droopy eyelid for quite a while. We didn’t really think too much of it, and it became more apparent in photographs. We went to see an optician, who said it could be a lazy eye, and then we went to see an eye surgeon, who said similar things.”
His mum was eventually diagnosed with a brain tumour after visiting several doctors.
“Eventually, in an outpatient clinic, she saw a very junior doctor, who did a very thorough examination and realised her eye wasn’t moving as well as it should. It wasn’t reacting to light as well as it should,” Dr Amir said.

Dr Amir’s ‘guilt’
He admitted he felt a level of “guilt” after he didn’t pick up on her tumour and “didn’t examine her to that degree”.
“She had an MRI scan and it showed she’s got a brain tumour pressing on something called her optic chiasm, which is where the nerves and blood vessels to the eye are,” Dr Amir added.
“They can’t operate on it because of where it is, which means she’s palliative. It’s symptom relief. So, she’s had five weeks of radiotherapy.”
