Vernon Kay’s brand-new BBC Two game show Do You Know Your Place? made its debut last night (February 23) — but early reactions suggest it may have a battle on its hands.
The series, which runs for four weeks on BBC Two, sees Vernon fronting a fresh quiz format alongside former The Traitors star Paul Gorton and a rotating line-up of celebrity guests.
However, after just one episode, some viewers were already calling for changes.

What is Do You Know Your Place?
Vernon hosts from the studio alongside the celebrity panel, while Paul travels around the UK acting as a tour guide. The twist? His commentary may be fact or fiction — and the celebrities must work out which is which to score points.
Each day, three celebrity guests compete as Paul appears in different locations across the country. The line-up includes Nitin Ganatra, the Reverend Kate Bottley, Gladiator ‘Apollo’ Alex Gray, Anneka Rice, Susan Calman, Owain Wyn Evans and Max Fosh.
Back in the studio, Vernon sets the stars a series of challenges connected to that episode’s featured location.
The goal is simple: earn the most points across the episode to win a souvenir from the location. The overall weekly champion receives an “I know my place” sweatshirt.
Vernon Kay Do You Know Your Place backlash
Despite the light-hearted format, social media reaction was swift — and not entirely positive.
Some viewers admitted they switched off early into the first episode.
One wrote: “Yeah. Sorry but Do You Know Your Place was unfathomably boring.”
Another added: “This is quite boring…”
A third commented: “Oh dear. I love Vernon but not enough to suffer through this any longer. I am switching over.”
Others were equally blunt. “Can’t get on board with this. It seems very strange,” one viewer said, while another posted: “I lasted five minutes. Not good.”
Not everyone was ready to give up, though. One fan suggested the show could improve, writing: “Not the best first episode, but I think it could hopefully grow better. And I do love Vernon.”
With three more weeks to go, it remains to be seen whether the format will win audiences over — or whether further tweaks may be needed.
Do You Know Your Place? airs weeknights on BBC Two at 6.30pm.
