‘That’s a bit bizarre!’ Coronation Street fans baffled over latest twist in Debbie’s dementia storyline

Fans are all complaining about the same thing...

Coronation Street fans have been left scratching their heads over Debbie’s struggle with dementia, after she turned up for work at The Chariot Square Hotel wearing her slippers.

The heartbreaking moment came in yesterday’s episode, when Debbie spent the day at work wearing her fluffy slippers, despite Ronnie reminding her that morning to put shoes on.

But it isn’t Debbie’s footwear that has fans confused. Instead, it is the way Coronation Street played the storyline…

Debbie felt right at home

Debbie got through most of the day without noticing she was wearing the wrong footwear. However, she was left confused and embarrassed when Ryan then pointed out her faux pas.

Ryan quietly told Ronnie that some of the customers at the hotel had been complaining about the error. So Ronnie was then left to delicately suggest to Debbie that they went home to change her shoes.

At first Debbie was baffled about how she ended up at work in fluffy slippers. But then she realised what had happened and tried to laugh it off by joking that she was going for comfort over fashion.

Debbie and her slippers: Coronation Street fans aren’t happy

The slippers incident is just the latest in a series of upsetting moments Debbie has experienced as part of her dementia diagnosis. But viewers were particularly unhappy on her behalf this time around.

They took to social media to rant about guests at the fictitious hotel complaining about slippers…

‘What sort of loser complains about a member of staff wearing slippers?’ said one fan on Reddit.

Someone else agreed: “The idea that several guests would have commented on the slippers was just bizarre! Why couldn’t the writers say Ryan noticed it himself and was concerned enough to call Ronnie? That would have made plenty of sense on its own.”

A third fan added: “If I saw somebody working in slippers I’d probably just think ‘I love that for them, comfortable king/queen!’ I certainly wouldn’t be asking to talk to a manager!’

“I probably wouldn’t even notice in the first place,” joked a final viewer.
