Meghan Markle reportedly suffered an awkward blunder over Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, Prince Harry once revealed.

In January 2023, the Duke of Sussex’s tell-all memoir, Spare, was released. In it, he made many revelations about the royal family.

In one extract, Harry discussed his wife’s first impression of his uncle Andrew, 65. But Harry revealed that Meghan made a rather funny blunder.

Meghan Markle’s first impression of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor

In the extract, obtained by the Daily Mail in 2023, Harry, 41, said that Meghan, 44, accidentally mistook Andrew for the queen’s assistant.

Harry discussed the first time Meghan met with his grandmother at Royal Lodge in 2016.

The duke wrote: “After a moment, Meg asked me something about the queen’s assistant. I asked who she was talking about.”

Meg asked me something about the queen’s assistant.

Recalling Meghan’s response, Harry continued: “‘That man holding the purse. That man who walked her to the door. That wasn’t her assistant? Who was it?'”

Harry then revealed he told Meghan that it was in fact his uncle, Andrew. He said he told Meghan: “That was her second son. Andrew.”

Harry then said Meghan “definitely hadn’t Googled us”.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor scandal

In the years since then, Andrew has been under intense scrutiny in the public eye over his association with late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

In his BBC Newsnight interview in 2019, in which he addressed his friendship with Epstein, Andrew claimed he cut off the disgraced financier in late 2010 following Epstein’s 2008 conviction for soliciting prostitution from a minor.

However, emails that emerged last year appeared to show Andrew allegedly in contact with Epstein in early 2011.

Shortly after the Newsnight interview aired, Andrew stepped back from royal duties.

Allegations against Andrew

Andrew has also faced allegations of sexual assault. The late Virginia Giuffre alleged she was made to sleep with the former prince on three occasions when she was 17 after being trafficked by Epstein.

Andrew has always vehemently denied the allegations.

Scrutiny against Harry’s uncle Andrew intensified recently following the release of more than three million files relating to Epstein and his crimes on January 30.

Within these files, images appeared to show Andrew kneeling on all fours over an unidentified female lying on the ground. No context has been supplied for the images. It’s also unclear when and where they were taken.

Buckingham Palace took action over Andrew last October. It was announced that King Charles had initiated a formal process to have Andrew’s remaining royal titles and honours removed.

It came as scrutiny was mounting over Andrew’s links to Epstein.

Meanwhile, the palace also confirmed that Andrew would leave his Windsor property, Royal Lodge.

Earlier this month, he moved to the king’s Sandringham Estate.

Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein. Being named or pictured among the Epstein files is not an indication of wrongdoing.
