Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been dealt a fresh blow as police have issued a statement over claims he leaked information from trade envoy reports to Jeffrey Epstein.
In January, more than three million files relating to late convicted sex offender Epstein and his crimes were released by the US Department of Justice.
Within these files, images appeared to show Andrew kneeling on all fours over an unidentified female. No context has been supplied for the images. It’s also unclear when and where they were taken.
Now, new documents have reportedly revealed that in 2010, Andrew passed on confidential information to Epstein.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor ‘leaked information’ to Jeffrey Epstein
Andrew’s association with Epstein has made headlines for years. In his BBC Newsnight interview in 2019, Andrew claimed he cut contact with the disgraced financier in late 2010 following Epstein’s 2008 conviction for soliciting prostitution from a minor.
However, emails that emerged last year appeared to show Andrew allegedly in contact with Epstein in early 2011.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago and more than three million files relating to Epstein and his crimes were released by the US Department of Justice.
It has now been claimed that Andrew leaked information to Epstein when he was trade envoy in 2010.
Latest Andrew allegations
Between 2001 and 2011, Andrew acted as a trade envoy. The role saw him have responsibility of representing the Sovereign for trade purposes. Under official guidance, trade envoys have a duty of confidentiality over sensitive, commercial, or political information about their official visits.
However, as ITV reports, newly released emails have allegedly showed that Andrew shared confidential reports from his role with Epstein.
It’s claimed the disgraced royal shared reports of official visits to Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Singapore. Andrew had made the visits in his capacity as trade envoy in late 2010. He reportedly conducted meetings and trade talks.
An email, dated November 2010, was allegedly forwarded to Epstein by Andrew just five minutes after it was sent by his then-special advisor, Amir Patel.
Police issue statement
Meanwhile, Andrew also reportedly looped Epstein in on a conditional brief on Christmas Eve 2010. This reportedly regarded investment opportunities about the reconstruction of Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
According to the BBC, anti-monarchy group Republic reported Andrew to the police on Monday (February 9).
A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “We can confirm receipt of this report and are assessing the information in line with our established procedures.”
Andrew’s representatives have been contacted for comment.
Prince and Princess of Wales speak out
Elsewhere on Monday, a statement was issued on behalf of Prince William and Princess Kate amid the ongoing Epstein and Andrew scrutiny.
Ahead of Prince William’s arrival in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Kensington Palace issued a statement.
They said ahead of William’s visit that couple “have been deeply concerned by the continuing revelations”.
The statement added: “Their thoughts remain focused on the victims.”
Andrew has always vehemently denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein and being named or pictured among the Epstein files is not an indication of wrongdoing.
