King Charles has spoken about the importance of friendship in a new speech ahead of Easter.

The monarch, 75, recorded the personal message for the congregation at the Maundy Thursday ceremony at Worcester Cathedral. His wife, Queen Camilla, has attended the event amid the King’s cancer treatment. The King’s speech will broadcast during the ceremony.

In his speech, the King will discuss “care and friendship” as well as praising those who “extend the hand of friendship, especially in a time of need”.

An image of King Charles making the speech was released on Wednesday. It showed the monarch sitting at his desk in Buckingham Palace’s 18th Century Room.

King Charles was all smiles in the picture, leaving royal fans delighted online.

However, during GB News on Thursday morning, royal biographer Michael Cole admitted it was “sad to see him in this way”.

He said: “A photograph has officially been issued of the King at his desk. The effects of the [treatment] I think is there.

“Obviously, it’s a great strain for anybody. But while you’re burying the burdens of being head of state at the same time as you’re being treated for cancer, I’m sure it isn’t easy for him.

“It’s a shame for me to see him, I was five years old when he was born. I’ve watched him and reported on him for throughout his life and I’m very sad to see him in this way.”

Many viewers also shared their thoughts as one said: “He looks frail a bit but he seems in good mood.”

Another wrote: “King Charles looks poorly and tired. I hope he can get through this.”

Someone else added: “The King is looking tired in this photo.”

Meanwhile, others thought he was looking well despite his treatment. One said: “I think he looks good.”

King Charles to attend Easter service

This week, Buckingham Palace confirmed that the King plans to lead the royal family at this Sunday’s Easter church service.

ITV’s Royal Editor Chris Ship tweeted: “It’s a significant move because it means Charles’ doctors are permitting him to be around more people despite his cancer treatment.”

However, the Prince and Princess of Wales will reportedly miss the service. According to reports, they’ve gone to their Anmer Hall retreat with their children.

It comes after the Princess of Wales shared her cancer diagnosis in a video message last Friday (March 22).

In it, she said: “In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present.

“My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventive chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”
