The Traitors star Charlotte Chilton rushed to A&E after trigeminal neuralgia attack

Charlotte, 34, best known for appearing on the second season of The Traitors, is in hospital after a flare-up of trigeminal neuralgia.

Trigeminal neuralgia is a chronic condition that causes sudden, severe, shock-like facial pain. The pain is usually on one side, in the jaw, cheek, or teeth. The NHS has described the pain as like having an electric shock to the face.

Attacks can last from seconds to minutes, and can happen hundreds of times per day.

Charlotte has been open about her struggles with the condition. She underwent brain surgery in her 20s to manage it.

Speaking to the Metro last year, she said: “You don’t know when you’re going to have your next pain and when you do have your pain, it can be managed sometimes with painkillers or it can be to a point you’re screaming.”

Charlotte on ‘terrible attack’

Describing the pain as unbearable, she admitted that she “didn’t want to live anymore” during the worst of it.

“It’s the worst pain condition you can have.”

Sharing a selfie from her hospital bed on Instagram, Charlotte revealed that she’s set to undergo brain surgery again in an attempt to combat the condition.

“As many of you know, I have tried to raise awareness of the condition, trigeminal neuralgia.

“I have unfortunately found myself back in hospital with a terrible attack, and this has resulted in me needing another neurosurgery to control it,” she wrote.

‘I have an operation to relieve me of my physical torture’

“Having surgery on your brain is always daunting; however, this has long-term relief and allows me to get on with my life. After being rushed into A and E with a huge attack, I have been taken care of by the amazing Neuro team at QE hospital, and today I have an operation to relieve me of my physical torture,” she continued.

“For my TN followers, keep fighting to find the right team to support you. They call this the suicide disease for a reason. I’m so grateful for my family and friends who have supported me through this hellish week! Wish me luck and see you on the other side!!”
