Iconic singer Anastacia revealed she doesn’t need to be “destitute” as she opens up about past relationships.
The One Day In Your Life hitmaker, 56, who competed on Strictly in 2016, was previously married to her bodyguard, Wayne Newton, between 2006 and 2010.
However, in recent years, Anastacia appears to have kept her love life under wraps. That said, in a new interview, she said she has a new philosophy when it comes to new relationships.

Anastacia on past relationships
During a chat with Hello!, the American star said she doesn’t have “crippling love relationships anymore”.
“I’m smart enough to know that I don’t need to be destitute. If we’re not getting along… it was really nice knowing you. I don’t need to cry about it. It’s wonderful. You go your way, I’m going mine,” Anastacia continued.
“I’d say from age 40 or 50 on, or whatever it is for people, you reach that ‘cigarette and martini’ effect in tougher situations. It’s the martini years – not that you’re drinking, but you’re relaxed, even if the martini is just an empty glass. It’s the effect of it.”
As she issued advice to her younger fans, Anastacia said it was important not to “let a partner disrespect you”. She insisted that if the person is “not treating you with the respect that your friends give you, think twice”.

Anastacia’s health battle
At the height of her success, Anastacia was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 34 in 2003. After undergoing surgery and radiotherapy, she made a full recovery.
However, in 2013, she received the heartbreaking news that she had been diagnosed again. After being forced to cancel her European tour, Anastacia underwent a double mastectomy.
Anastacia created the Anastacia Fund to raise awareness of breast cancer amongst young women.
“What I try to do is just make a difference in other people’s lives, try to give them hope and faith that what you’re going through is not forever, there’s ebbs and flows, just allow your good day to be ok,” she revealed earlier this month.
“If the band day comes, don’t shun it; it probably needs to happen.”
