Sara Davies on doctor’s stern health warning before incredible weight loss

'Body positivity has never been my issue'

Dragons’ Den investor Sara Davies is diversifying her portfolio as of late. From Christmas crafts to prime-time quiz shows, it looks like the businesswoman isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

Earlier this year, ITV announced a new quiz show called Time Is Money, hosted by the star. The premise is simple: contestants start out with all their prize money, but the twist is that they need to race against the clock to keep hold of it.

As we follow Sara on her new quiz show journey, there’s another path she opened up about – shedding the pounds. So how did she get where she is today?

It took a long time for Sara to get to this point, but for her, a turning point was her weight-loss journey.

After losing three stone in 2024, she utterly transformed her health — and in an interview with The Mirror last February, revealed that it’s her doctor she really has to thank.

She says she was first warned about diabetes after giving birth to her second child, who is now nine.

“I had gestational diabetes in both my pregnancies, and as I was leaving the hospital, the nurse told me: ‘If you don’t get a handle on your weight, you will have type 2 diabetes in 10 years,'” she recounted.

“Every year since I’ve had my blood glucose levels checked, and every year I’ve seen that number creep up and up towards the pre-diabetic area. Then, two years ago, the doctor told me: ‘This is getting a little bit out of hand, by this time next year, you’ll be pre-diabetic.’ It was the kick up the bum I needed.”

Along with cutting out sugar, Sara committed herself to running, which she started doing in lockdown.

Sara said she’d tackled the Great North Run the previous year but was gutted with her three-hour finish. So she went into 2024 determined to improve and stayed committed to training.

She also stressed that confidence in her body has never been a problem for her. She has no desire to shrink down to a size six or eight – she’s perfectly content as a size 14, “stretch marks, mum tum” and all. For her, it’s simply about feeling healthy, and that’s what counts.

Dropping several dress sizes

The TV star revealed she gave up sugar and increased her veggie intake to help her drop three dress sizes.

But she was ‘mortified’ when she had to ‘size up’ her outfits while on Dragons’ Den.

“It was the biggest size I’d ever been wearing,” she admitted to Closer magazine in 2024. She admitted it “really” got to her so she wanted to do something about it.

The Dragon also cut back on alcohol and doesn’t enjoy a drink even on a night out, adding it’s helped with her weight loss.

The first episode of Time Is Money will drop on January 1 on ITV and ITVX.
