Beloved Neighbours star Ryan Moloney is facing his biggest challenge yet as he joins the Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins line-up along with the likes of Dani Dyer.

However, the 46-year-old actor, who is known for playing the character Toadie, is no stranger to health struggles.

Ryan Moloney’s weight loss

Back in 2010, fans were stunned after Ryan lost 17kg in just 13 weeks. His secret? Lite n’ Easy.

This Australian brand, which he became an ambassador for, delivers healthy meals to people as part of specific weight-loss plans.

Along with meal changes, Ryan also adopted a more active lifestyle. Most notably, he ran the St George Melbourne Marathon with a time of 03:46:32.

So, his stint on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins feels like natural progression.

He previously discussed his weight loss in an interview with TNT magazine, sharing how he was inspired to try flying following the dramatic change.

“Losing the weight makes you feel a lot better, but it also gives you confidence to do the things that you always wanted to do,” he said.

His ADHD diagnosis

Ryan has also been open about his ADHD diagnosis. In an interview on the Father Figures podcast last year, he shared how his biggest ADHD symptom is “hyperfocus”.

“It happened just the other day, where I’m like, all of a sudden, I just kind of come out of a hyper focus and I go: ‘Oh my gosh […] how long have I been in this hyper focus for?’

“It feels like it’s been weeks, if not months,” he added. “I’m now trying to actually get you know, life back and get the head back and all that kind of stuff.”

He continued: “I’ve got a little band around my wrist as a reminder that when I start to get cranky and angry, we just go, oh hang on a second, dude, life doesn’t actually have to be that. You actually have a choice, and actually, put that aside, and actually, you know, enjoy life.

“It certainly helps with hyperfocuses because you’ll be in tunnel vision the whole way. So it’s kind of like: ‘Hey, what’s going on? Where are we?'”

Back surgery

In 2015, two years after appearing on Celebrity Big Brother, the star shared how he had endured a four-hour surgery to fuse his spine.

“I was suffering from back pain and I couldn’t feel my left leg for most of the time,” he told The Sun.

“It was completely numb because the discs in my back were disintegrating and getting progressively worse. I knew they were going to cut me open and mess with my spinal cord and that was nerve-racking.”

Fortunately, the surgery was a success.

“I can feel my leg again now, so that’s good. Although, when I was playing Buttons in panto at Christmas, I wasn’t running around as much as I normally do!”

Fingers crossed he’s still fighting fit at the end of Celebrity SAS…

Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins begins on Sunday, January 4, 2026, 9pm on Channel 4 and All4.
