Peter Andre gives ‘absolutely heartbreaking’ update on his mum’s battle with dementia

'It is so painful for everyone,' he shared

Peter Andre has opened up about his mum Thea’s heartbreaking health struggles, revealing the emotional toll her battle with both Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s is having on his family.

The Mysterious Girl singer recently shared that Thea is now struggling to speak, as her condition continues to worsen.

Peter lives in the UK with wife Emily and their children Amelia, Theo and baby Arabella, as well as eldest children Princess and Junior. He has opened up about the pain of being so far away from his parents, who remain in Australia.

Peter Andre opens up about his mum’s battle with dementia

In his New! magazine column, Peter reflected on how personal it feels hearing updates from other celebrities about loved ones with dementia.

“Lesley Joseph recently gave a sad update on Pauline Quirke and her dementia battle. It’s very close to home when I hear these stories,” he wrote, as reported by The Mirror.

Reflecting on his own experience, Peter described the experience of watching a parent suffer from dementia as a “really cruel battle”.

“No matter how old we are, we’re never too old not to hurt when our parents are going through what they’re going through,” he continued.

Peter also admitted that being in the UK while his mum’s condition declines has been one of the hardest things to bear.

“It’s absolutely heartbreaking,” he said. “I see the decline happening, and I know the feelings of guilt and worry that we, her loved ones, feel. It is so painful for everyone.”

‘I love her so much’

Earlier this year, Peter’s parents, Thea and Savvas, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. The milestone was recognised with a letter from King Charles. However, Peter revealed the moment was bittersweet due to his mother’s fading speech.

“I prayed for this moment for them,” he wrote, adding that although she may not be able to express it, he hopes her heart is “filled with warmth” from the love surrounding her.

During a recent trip to Australia, Peter spent precious time with Thea. He shared a series of photos and clips on social media. In one post, he wrote that while he wasn’t “exactly sure what Mum [was] saying”, their connection didn’t need words.

He added: “I love her so much, I pray she knows that. I also love Australia. But back to my babies now.”
