Meghan Markle has shared a rare sneak peek into her family life at home in California with Prince Harry, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The Duchess of Sussex, 44, made the revelations as she supported her friend, Courtney Adamo, at a book event near her home in Montecito.
The event promoted Courtney’s new family-focused interior design book, The Family Home: Inspiring Ideas for a Home Filled with Joy.
The author and businesswoman, a sorority sister of Meghan’s at college, co-founded the popular UK parenting blog Babyccino Kids.
Meghan joined Courtney for a Godmothers Bookstore livestream on Thursday (October 23), where she opened up about some of her own family rituals. The event was streamed on social media.
Meghan Markle shares new Archie and Lilibet details
“First thing I do when I wake up in the morning is turn the music on in the house,” Meghan shared, as reported by the Daily Mail.
She also added that she takes a portable speaker with her when she travels so that she can keep up this routine wherever she is, as well as a scented candle.
“I always travel with a candle. I am so conscious and sensitive to fragrance and I associate that with home,” she said.
Meghan also shared a technique that has become central to parenting her young children.
The duchess explained that she gets Archie and Lilibet, now six and four, to share the rose (highlight) and thorn (challenge) of every day.
Our daughter, she’s four and she’s a very strong personality and she’s incredible.
Meghan said: “Our daughter, she’s four and she’s a very strong personality and she’s incredible. And now she’s in this moment where I say, ‘What’s your rose and your thorn?’ And she goes, ‘My day was just a blast.”’
The family of four also apparently have a “healing blanket” for the kids to cuddle up with for comfort if they’re ever not feeling well.
Meghan’s hosting tips
Domestic goddess Meghan also shared some of her go-to hosting tips.
Apparently, she and Prince Harry like to open the door to their guests “barefoot” with an “apron on”.
“It demystifies,” she reportedly explained. “People walk in and go, ‘Oh, she’s in this with me.’ And what are they drawn to? Your kitchen. They come right in, and suddenly everyone’s a little bit softened.”
In Meghan’s house, apparently, you also get offered hot cider rather than a cup of tea, and it’s a DIY affair.
Meghan said she loves people “being able to serve themselves. Meghan also likes “having things on the stove that everyone can help themselves to”.
