Kylie Minogue previously revealed that the lifesaving cancer treatment she had meant that she was unable to have children.
The pop star, 57, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 when she was just 36 years old. After going through chemotherapy and surgery, Kylie is now cancer-free.
However, a few years back, Kylie – who is performing on Strictly Come Dancing’s Results Show tonight (December 14) – candidly opened up about the toll her cancer diagnosis took on her fertility.
Kylie Minogue on how cancer ‘changed everything’
Kylie was diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2005 after finding a lump and had to undergo both surgery and chemo.
Fast forward to 2019, and the singer revealed she often wonders how her life would have been different if she had never got sick.
“I was 36 when I had my diagnosis. Realistically, you’re getting to the late side of things [when it comes to having kids],” she told the Sunday Times Style and shared that she was unable to have kids due to her cancer treatment.
Kylie added: “And, while that wasn’t on my agenda at the time, [cancer] changed everything. I don’t want to dwell on it, obviously, but I wonder what that would have been like.”
‘I can’t say there are no regrets’
Kylie continued: “Everyone will say there are options, but I don’t know. I can’t say there are no regrets, so I just have to be as philosophical about it as I can.”
The chart-topper has also previously revealed that she is open-minded when it comes to potentially being a stepmother.
She told the Sunday Times in 2018: “It would be a lie to say there’s not a bit of sadness there, but I don’t get caught up in it. I can’t. I mean, what can I do? And there’s a high probability, if/when I meet someone, that they will have children anyway. So I could imagine being a stepmum.”
Kylie on moment she found out she had cancer
Meanwhile, in 2020, Kylie recalled the moment she found out she had cancer. She told People: “It’s like the earth had kind of slipped off its axis. You see everything differently.
“I remember having had my diagnosis, but the world didn’t know. I was with my brother [Brendan Minogue] and my boyfriend at the time [actor Oliver Martinez] — we were all in a daze and went to a cafe.
“The server at the cafe was like: ‘Hey, how are you today?’ We just kind of robotically said: ‘Good, thanks,’ and in that moment I just thought, you really don’t know what anyone is going through.”
