Holly Willoughby struggled to fight by the tears as she met hero Tony Davis, who tried to help save the life of policeman Keith Palmer, who was stabbed in the Westminster terror attack.

Tony, who performed CPR on Keith, appeared on Thursday’s This Morning to explain the horrific ordeal.

Holly and co-presenter Phillip Schofield praised Tony, calling him to be a “hero”, to which he responded: “Please, I’m not brave, I’m no hero.”

During the horrifying event yesterday a suspected terrorist crashed a 4X4 vehicle into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge before knifing the policeman.

Three other people – including the assailant – lost their lives, and more than 20 people were seriously injured.

Speaking about witnessing the attack first-hand Tony told the hosts: “I had my phone out, I was taking photos, I didn’t realise there was a crash.

“We were on the side of the barrier making our way to the exit.

“I saw some large chap brandishing two knives and attacking two policemen.

“I leapt over the fence, instinct kicked in.”

As Holly and Phil couldn’t believe his bravery, Tony added: “My natural instinct was to get over there and give some assistance to the fallen policeman, Keith.

“Initially when he fell to the ground I put him in the recovery position.

“He had wound in his arm and on his rib cage.”

Holly, who couldn’t stop her voice from breaking, said: “Well done, I’m going to shake your hand for being so brave.”

With the ITV show focusing on the horrific terror attack, the hosts also spoke to a former colleague of Keith, Nina Whitehead.

She revealed:  “He was a wonderful dad, and wonderful husband to his wife and everything.”
