Death of Prunella Scales announced

Earlier today (October 28), Prunella’s death was announced in a statement by her sons Samuel and Joseph. They revealed that she had died “peacefully at her home in London yesterday”.

Paying tribute to their “darling mother”, they revealed that she was watching Fawlty Towers – the show she was best known for – the day before she died.

Their statement read: “Our darling mother Prunella Scales died peacefully at home in London yesterday.

“She was 93. Although dementia forced her retirement from a remarkable acting career of nearly 70 years, she continued to live at home. She was watching Fawlty Towers the day before she died.”

The statement continued: “Pru was married to Timothy West for 61 years. He died in November 2024. She is survived by two sons and one stepdaughter, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.”

It concluded: “We would like to thank all those who gave Pru such wonderful care at the end of her life: her last days were comfortable, contented and surrounded by love.”

Tributes pour in

“The passing of a Legend,” said one fan.

“I’m so very sorry for your loss,” said another, responding to Samuel’s post on Twitter. “I never come to this place any more but hoped that there might be the chance to send you love and condolences today. Your mother was a joy and leaves behind the most wonderful body of work. Go well, lovely woman.”

Another commented: “So sorry to hear about your mother. What a beautiful message you have shared with us. Thank you. I envisage both parents sailing along the canals of Heaven, smiling beatifically at the scenery, glass or tea mug in hand.”

“Sad to read this but so glad for your mother that she was able to stay in her own home amongst her own life. Such a gifted actor, such a legacy. She had the ability to light up any performance. Condolences to you and to your brother, the rest of your family and close friends,” said another.
