The comedian went on: “They’re now finding out that this drug can cure a lot of other things and help with addictions although we don’t know the side effects.”

“I’m like the bionic man. I’ve had a new knee put in and I’ve had a new valve put into my heart. It’s not easy getting old,” he said.

The star then opened up about the grim realisation that life is precious. He said that as an older person, the things you attend “are funerals and memorial services”.

Biggins then added: “It makes you aware that life is very shallow. It’s not easy. You never know when you’re going to go.”

He also said: “I’ve always been aware of being a big boy — aware of my weight and looking at going on diets.”
