Strictly Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden has shared a health update after undergoing major surgery.
The professional dancer, 35, has been absent from the BBC dance show while she recovers from her second mastectomy.
Amy Dowden’s cancer battle
Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2023. She underwent a single mastectomy and chemotherapy and, the following year, received the wonderful news that there was no longer any evidence of disease.
As she announced the news of her second surgery, the Welsh dancer reassured fans that it wasn’t to treat “a second cancer diagnosis”. She explained the procedure followed doctors finding “specks” on her other breast last month.
‘I am still taking things day by day’
Addressing fans in an Instagram video last night (November 19), Amy issued an update on how her recovery is going.
“Hello everyone! I wanted to come on here and update you all, I’ve had so many lovely messages asking how I’m doing. I’m doing so much better thank you!” she told her followers, in her usual bubbly manner.
“Since the weekend, I’ve really really started to feel more like me. I feel like I’ve definitely got my energy back, my movement is coming back. It’s still a bit sore but the bruising has gone down.”
She went on to share that she’d gone to see her doctor, who was pleased with how she was recovering.
“It’s now all about recovery, getting as strong as I possibly can, getting back on the dancefloor – when it’s safe to do so, when I’m fully recovered,” she added.
Amy also said she has treated herself to some retail therapy to get her spirits up – as she should!
“So, thank you so much,” she said again, as she finished up the video. “It feels so good to be out and about again and have a bit of freedom. Obviously, I am still taking things day by day. I am going to make sure I recover fully and properly and be patient.”
All the best for your recovery, Amy!
