Amy Dowden shares support from Princess Kate amid cancer battle: ‘She was so kind’

What a nice gesture!

Dancer and Strictly Come Dancing pro Amy Dowden has spoken out about her memorable interaction with the Princess of Wales amid her cancer battle.

Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2023. Since then, she has undergone a mastectomy and multiple rounds of chemotherapy.

On a recent episode of Loose Women, the dancer revealed that she’d had an unexpected hospital visitor during her chemo treatment – none other than Princess Kate.

Speaking to the panel and the audience, Amy said: “I was lucky enough to meet [Kate] during my chemo treatment, and she gave me so much time. She was so kind. Actually, her words were, ‘Let us know if there’s anything we can do.'”

Amy expressed how touched she was by Kate’s words. She also extended her own support to the Princess of Wales amidst her own cancer battle.

“I can’t tell you how many times my parents would say they would do anything to take it away from me or them to have it instead of me. My mum’s had cancer twice and it’s just the thought [Kate] has to go through it in the public eye and she’s got three young children,” Amy said.

“I don’t want anyone to go through it, it’s still very raw to me.”

When Princess Kate announced her diagnosis, Amy took to Instagram to express her sadness. In a video, she said: “The news has hit me personally pretty hard. Thinking of our Princess.”

Amy Dowden on project with King Charles

This isn’t the star’s only interaction with the monarchy – as Amy revealed she will be collaborating on an upcoming project with King Charles.

Commenting on the project, Amy shared: “It is part of the Big Help Out, which is between the 7th and 9th of June. We’re asking everybody that possibly can do to volunteer. Charities, such as Cancer Research UK, wouldn’t be possible without volunteers. They are the heartbeat of all charities.”

She continued: “You can download the app and it tells you what’s going on in your local community. You don’t even need to leave the house!”

Earlier this year, Amy shared the amazing news that a check-up showed “no evidence of disease”, and that she hopes to return to Strictly Come Dancing for the upcoming series.
