Celebrity Traitors: Fans left wondering what will happen with the double vote tie in latest banishment

A former contestant has confirmed what the rules state

| Updated:

Celebrity Traitors fans have been left wondering what is going to happen following an unprecedented Round Table voting tie.

Viewers are on the edge of their seats after the latest episode ended on the never-seen-before cliffhanger.

The celebrities had all been asked to vote in the episode 5 banishment and it resulted in a tie between Mark Bonnar and David Olusoga.

In keeping with the show’s rules, host Claudia Winkleman asked the contestants to vote again following the first tie. But the results were tied again; five votes each for Mark and David.

Wednesday’s show ended with Claudia saying: “It is still a draw. Therefore, we will now leave this banishment in the hands of fate.” She had previously warned the celebrities: “Their fate will be decided by chance.”

The Celebrity Traitors: Banishment tie

The Celebrity Traitors contestants were left gasping in shock as the Round Table went to a second tie. Lucy Beaumont asked: “Has this ever happened before?”

Shaking his head, Nick Mohammed said: “It’s never happened!” Claudia then walked out of the Round Table room.

The BBC is yet to reveal exactly how the banishment will be resolved in tonight’s episode, but there is already lots of speculation. A double tie deadlock has never happened in The Traitors in the UK, but it has happened in the show abroad.

Avid fans have been sharing their thoughts on Reddit. One wrote: “I think it was in Hungary, the tie was broken by counting how many votes each person had through the season.”

Suggesting the same, another added: “On a foreign non-English version of the show, a stalemate was reached at the F4, and the way the tie was resolved was that the person who had received more votes total in prior roundtables was banished.”

But there has also been discussions about using a simple game to decided Mark and David’s fate. Someone else said: “It was supposed to be a coin flip in S3 US so I’m assuming UK will do the same.”

Another viewer agreed: “In UK S2 there was a tie and before they all revoted, the host said that if they tie again then fate will decide who is banished. There never was a second tie so we never got to see what fate is but many predicted it means a coin flip between the 2 tied.”

The Traitors Dr Kasim Ahmed ‘confirms’ tie rules

Dr Kasim Ahmed has already confirmed what would have happened in the event of a double banishment tie in his series. He appeared in series 3 of the UK Traitors and held a Q&A with fans on Reddit last week.

He was coincidentally asked exactly this question – and a coin toss seems the most likely.

One viewer quizzed Kas: “Do you know what happens if there is a tied vote and the re-vote ties as well (ie. a deadlocked tie)? There have been ties in other countries’ seasons, but they seem to have different rules depending on the country.”

Kas replied: “This is a great one, and it comes up in the rule book. First theres a pitch from each player, then a revote. If it remains tied then it’s down to a coin toss.”

Is Kas correct? Only time will tell!

Who was murdered in episode 5?

Meanwhile, episode 5 began with another celebrity leaving the castle. Charlotte Church is the latest celebrity to be murdered by the Traitors. The Welsh singer was carted off by a screaming banshee in her bed.

The Celebrity Traitors continues tonight at 9pm on BBC One. The show will be 65 minutes long. Companion show, Celebrity Traitors Unlocked, airs straight after on BBC Two.

The drama is all too much!
