Coleen Rooney met with King Charles at Windsor Castle this week in an event that saw carers come together.
The star’s family’s decision to foster a young girl called Rosie means she has a deep connection to care.
Coleen Rooney and her sister Rosie
Coleen’s sister, Rosie, was adopted by her parents when she was two years old.
Rosie had Rett syndrome, a rare, severe neurodevelopmental disorder. It results in severe mental and physical disability. It affects around 1 in 10,000 girls born each year. It is very rarely seen in boys.
Sadly, Rosie died aged 14 in 2013. In a statement after her death, Coleen and her family, including husband Wayne Rooney, said they were “heartbroken” by the loss of Rosie.
“She was such a strong little girl and an inspiration to us all,” they said.
“We shall cherish forever the memories we have shared and the love she showed us each and every day of her life.”
During her stint on I’m A Celebrity in 2024, Coleen opened up about losing Rosie.
“Even when Rosie died, I kept it together for me mum and dad,” she said. “It’s hard to lose a child, I’ve always said that so we’re lucky to have what we’ve got.”
Coleen Rooney meets King Charles
On Wednesday, Coleen, along with several other big-name celebs, attended a reception at Windsor Castle.
The likes of UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, leader of the Liberal Democrats, Sir Ed Davey, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, and Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester, were also present.
King Charles paid tribute to the people who care without pay, and the carers.
He said that they, along with organisations and charities, are “the foundation upon which so many families and society itself depends”.
Coleen, who has a strong link to the care through her sister Rosie, uploaded a picture of herself meeting the king on her Instagram.
The post, which went out to her 1.5 million followers, has been liked thousands of times since being uploaded this morning (Thursday, February 12).
“Had a lovely day at Windsor Castle celebrating the inspirational work of all carers. Recognising the incredible dedication and impact they make every day is so important….so a big, big thank you to all carers!” she captioned the post.
Her fans flooded the comment section with support.
