'Doctors couldn’t believe it when they opened me up'

Danniella Westbrook has spoken candidly about her well-being, following a recent hospital dash.

The 52-year-old was planning a comeback this year after landing a role in a new film. However, after suffering breathing difficulties, the former EastEnders actress was taken to the hospital.

Now, Danniella is undergoing a surgical overhaul to help her properly recover.

Forced to breathe on a breathing machine while in the hospital, doctors discovered Danniella had three new holes in her mouth.

This was in addition to the issues she’s previously faced with her nose, with her septum having eroded following her cocaine addiction.

“Doctors couldn’t believe it when they opened me up,” Danniella told The Mail.

“The top of my mouth had started to recede and it had two holes, which were constantly leaking and corroded. Everything I was eating and drinking was going through them.”

Danniella has since undergone surgery, which has left her with 68 stitches in her mouth.

“But the work on that went well, including a surgical lip revision for a cleft lip. My surgeon brought my top lip down and forward – those holes were pushing it back and curling my lip up,” she added.

“And, where there is no structure at the end of my nose, it was just pushing up and under. That is why I couldn’t breathe, I was literally suffocating.”

Danniella’s next surgery move

But this is merely just the start of Danniella’s rehabilitation. Next year, the actress is heading over to Dubai to have a £45,000 face and neck lift. She will also have a few additional minor procedures.

She believes she has another two years of rehabilitation before she is completely healed. Danniella has also kicked her extensive drug use, which her 3g a day cocaine habit was costing her £250,000.

Although she successfully kicked her drug habit several times, she fell off the wagon in 2014. It was 2021 when she announced she was finally drug-free, after attending a clinic in Mijas, Spain.

She is now working on her new talent agency, W.1 Elite, and is making a documentary about her surgery journey.

Meanwhile, Danniella teased she would happily return to EastEnders to reprise her role of Sam Mitchell – but only if she was “killed off”.

For now, she is focused on her recovery and building her self-esteem.

“I got rid of all my mirrors,” she said. “I hated the way I look…but now, I feel great.”
