Kate Middleton makes ‘surprise’ appearance to welcome Crown Prince of Jordan to Windsor

Prince William teamed up with Prince Hussein for a visit to RAF Benson

Kate Middleton made an unexpected public appearance today as she joined Prince William to welcome Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II and his wife, Princess Rajwa Al Hussein, to Windsor Castle.

While Kensington Palace had only confirmed Prince William’s meeting with the Crown Prince at RAF Benson earlier in the week, the Princess of Wales delighted fans by stepping out to greet the visiting royals alongside her husband.

In a short behind-the-scenes video shared to the official Prince and Princess of Wales Instagram page, Kate was seen chatting warmly with Princess Rajwa as they walked through the halls of Windsor Castle. William and Hussein followed close behind, also deep in conversation.

The caption read: “A pleasure to welcome HRH Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II of Jordan and HRH Princess Rajwa to Windsor this morning.”

Oh what a beautiful video! And this was definitely a wonderful surprise.

The two couples posed together inside the castle. Kate wore a camel-toned trouser suit, while Princess Rajwa looked chic in a classic black and white ensemble.

Royal fans were quick to gush over Kate’s unexpected appearance.

‘A wonderful surprise’

“What a beautiful surprise!” One wrote.

Someone else wrote: “Oh what a beautiful video! And this was definitely a wonderful surprise.”

Another commented: “You two are the most elegant princesses ever.”

“The Princess of Wales looks absolutely gorgeous today (as always),” a fan agreed.

This latest appearance comes after an already busy start to the week for the Princess of Wales, who continues to gradually return to public life following her cancer battle last year.

On Tuesday (October 14), Prince William and Kate spent the day in Northern Ireland, where they visited the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service’s (NIFRS) new £50 million Learning and Development College near Cookstown.

Following the visit, the royal pair continued their day in rural Northern Ireland with a stop at Mallon Farm, where they learned about sustainable flax production. They later headed to Long Meadow Cider, a family-run apple farm in County Armagh, where they were invited to roll up their sleeves and show off their baking skills.

Prince William and Crown Prince of Jordan visit RAF Benson

Following the Windsor welcome on Wednesday, Prince William and Crown Prince Hussein travelled to RAF Benson in Oxfordshire for a joint engagement.

The royal heirs, both trained helicopter pilots, met with trainee aircrew, support staff, and technicians.

A spokesperson for Kensington Palace noted: “Today’s engagements highlight the strong relationship between The Prince and The Crown Prince, as well as their mutual respect and support for the Armed Forces.”

William and Hussein’s friendship dates back years. During a solo visit to Jordan in 2018, William stopped by the Crown Prince’s bachelor home to watch a recorded England World Cup match. The pair were later photographed lounging together on a large grey sofa, watching the game.

Queen Rania, Hussein’s mother, also sits on the council for William’s Earthshot Prize.

Kate’s appearance today also held a personal resonance. The Princess of Wales lived in Jordan as a child for a few years when her father worked for British Airways. She and sister Pippa attended nursery there.

In 2021, William and Kate returned to Jordan for a private family holiday. A photo from that trip, taken in the ancient city of Petra, later featured on their Christmas card.
