Jonathan Ross may have been one of Celebrity Traitors’ most cunning players, but according to the star himself, some of his “suspicious” behaviour wasn’t strategy, it was down to a hidden health struggle.
The veteran broadcaster was the sixth celebrity to be banished from the hit BBC reality series. However, he later revealed that he was dealing with a recurring eye condition throughout filming that sometimes left him temporarily blind in one eye.
Jonathan Ross opens up about eye condition
“I went blind in my right eye a couple of times. It will happen again probably,” Jonathan said on Celebrity Traitors: Uncloaked, as reported by The Mirror. “It’s only temporary but it’s not very nice.”
The 63-year-old presenter – on The Wheel this weekend (November 8) – explained that he suffers from a sensitivity that makes bright lights uncomfortable and sometimes affects his vision entirely, which deeply impacted his experience on the show.
“That’s why I was wearing sunglasses a lot when I was out there,” he shared. “I shouldn’t really be out in bright lights for too long.”
Even the show’s opening, which saw contestants don blindfolds, was stressful for Jonathan, who feared a flare-up could be triggered. “When that [blindfold] came off, it was like: ‘Great. My eyes are still working.'”
Jonathan admitted he saw fans speculating online that his dramatic removal of the blindfold was a “giveaway” that he was a Traitor.
“I saw people online saying: ‘He really overdid taking off that blindfold. That makes him a Traitor.’ I go blind in my right eye!”
Fans of Jonathan can see a lighter side of the legendary host this Saturday on Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel, airing 8pm on BBC One.
