Downton Abbey actor Allen Leech announces engagement with cute photo

They should have the wedding at the Abbey!

Downton Abbey star Allen Leech, who played Tom Branson in the ITV series, has revealed his engagement in a touching Instagram post.

Beside a picture of him with his partner, Jessica Blair Herman, the actor wrote: “Happy Valentine’s Day @jessicablairherman. First one as a fiancé! Thank you for saying yes and for making me the happiest.”

He also confirmed that it wasn’t a Valentine’s Day proposal, writing: “(And no I didn’t do it today. It’s been a while.) xx”.

Fans were excited, commenting: “Congratulations @therealleech what a beautiful couple!” Another added: “Congrats mate!! Well done! Much happiness!”

Others were surprised to learn they were even a couple, writing: “Omg I had no idea you were dating! How neat. Congrats!”

Actress and producer Jessica posted her own sweet message alongside a picture of Allen kissing her.

She wrote: “The day you proposed was one of the best days but every day with you is my favourite. I love you! Happy Valentine’s Day @therealleech!”

The 36-year-old Irish actor played Tom in Downton Abbey – which ran for six series and pulled in over 12 million viewers – for five years from 2010 to 2015.

The show left screens at the end of 2015, but speculation has raged ever since over whether they will make a film version.

Writer, Julian Fellowes has confirmed he’s written a script, but worries about getting the entire cast in the same place at one time.

He told the Evening Standard: “I don’t want to be caught out if the producers suddenly say yes and then it’s all go.”

But Dame Maggie Smith – who played Dowager Countess of Grantham – seems unsure about returning.

During an interview at the British Film Institute, the actress said: “They talk about there being a film but who knows. I hope you might tell me if you do know.

“I just think it’s squeezing it dry, do you know what I mean? I don#’t know what it could possibly be. It’s too meandering.”

Earlier this month, Phyllis Logan, who played housekeeper Mrs Hughes, told the Loose Women panel she knew nothing about whether the film was happening.

She said: “Do you know what they call actors? We’re like mushrooms, we are kept in the dark and occasionally popped in the manure.

“I feel so bad because I would love to say we start shooting next week. You should get in touch with the producers for God’s sake. You know as much as I do.”

Come on guys, we need this to happen.
