Anita Rani previously opened up about going through a heartbreaking time following a miscarriage.
The presenter has been a regular on screen for several years. From a stint on Strictly in 2015, to hosting Countryfile – which returns today (October 26) – Anita has kept herself busy.
Tragically though, a few years back, Anita suffered a miscarriage with her then-husband Bhupinder Rehal.
Anita Rani on ‘incredibly sad’ time
In December 2018, Anita was left devastated when she suffered a miscarriage. At the time, she was married to Bhupinder, whom she split from in 2023 after 14 years of marriage.
Reflecting on the ordeal, Anita told Red magazine in 2020: “It was an incredibly sad time for me and my husband, but because there was so much going on at work, I didn’t slow down, and decided to process it properly at Christmas instead.”
However, Anita noted: “The truth is, I didn’t process it over Christmas.” This led to a period where she no longer “recognised” herself and faced scary panic attacks.
Anita went on: “All year I felt anxiety and insecurity like never before. What made those feelings worse was the terror of not knowing or understanding what I was going through. I didn’t recognise myself.”
Anita on how lockdown helped grief
Anita also opened up about her miscarriage with Fabulous magazine in September 2020. She revealed that lockdown helped with her grief following the miscarriage.
“It’s difficult to talk about, because it’s bereavement. It’s a loss, and that will never change. But it’s too exhausting not living truthfully and I also thought it was too important not to use my voice,” she said.
Anita went on: “Nobody talks about it, yet so many women have gone through it. Lots of women and men have reached out to me since and spoken about what they went through.
“The response was amazing and I think that is the biggest thing about sharing your experiences. I just used my voice and it helped me as well as others and it was worth it.”
Watch Countryfile on Sunday (October 26) at 5:15pm on BBC One.
