Natasha was on the show to issue a warning about skin cancer

| Updated:

Atomic Kitten singer Natasha Hamilton issued an update about her skin cancer during an appearance on Good Morning Britain today (Friday, June 6).

The 42-year-old singer was diagnosed with the disease last year, just a few months after giving birth to daughter Kitty, who is now nine months old.

Last year, five months after welcoming her fifth child, daughter Kitty, Atomic Kitten star Natasha went on holiday to Majorca.

However, the star found that she had an itch on her back upon returning. The singer, who found fame in the 1990s, put the discomfort down to a mosquito bite. But she ended up getting her husband, Charles Gay, to look at it when the discomfort persisted.

Upon seeing a doctor, Natasha was diagnosed with skin cancer. She then had a basal-cell carcinoma removed from her back.

Speaking on GMB today, Natasha explained that she hadn’t been out in the sun much during her holiday. This is because she was breastfeeding at the time. “And one afternoon I had her [Kitty] on my lap and my back was in the sun and I burnt,” she then said.

After initially putting the itch down to a mosquito bite, it wasn’t until four weeks later that alarm bells started ringing.

“It wasn’t until maybe four weeks later when I was at home and it was itching and I was like, hang on a minute, that seems a bit long for a mosquito bite,” she said.

I have to check my skin all the time.

“Asked my husband to have a look and he went: ‘Oh, that’s not a bite.’ And he took the picture, and when I looked at it, I went, ‘Okay, I think I know what that is’,” she then continued.

“And originally it had just been a dark freckle that I’d had on my back for many years. It wasn’t even raised, it wasn’t a mole, it was just a freckle,” she said.

The star – mum to Josh, 20, Harry, 18, Alfie, 13, Ella, eight, and baby Kitty – also revealed that her mum has had skin cancer in the past.

After having it removed, Natasha is now cancer-free.

“So now I have to be really vigilant. I have to check my skin all the time. Since then, I’ve had a few things appear on my skin where I’ve had to go back to the dermatologist, and they’re on the watch list,” she said. She then added that having skin cancer has been a “massive wake-up call”.

Natasha revealed her diagnosis back in May during an appearance on the Celebrity Skin Talk podcast.

Speaking to show host Scott McGlynn, she said: “I actually had skin cancer last year. I had a basal-cell carcinoma removed from my back, and it was a massive wake-up call for me. It was like: ‘Oh. ‘

“I have burnt my back so much over the years, and I used sunbeds when I was younger, you know, back in the 1990s, it was like everyone used a sunbed before you went on your night out on a Saturday, and the repercussions of that is now I have to be super vigilant in the sun, like I need to have my high factors on,” she said.

She then added: “I can’t be burning. I have to check my skin religiously for changes in like moles and freckles.”
