Dr Hilary Jones confirms he’s leaving ITV’s Lorraine and fans are gutted

He said he may 'come back as a guest presenter now and then'

| Updated:

Dr Hilary Jones has revealed he is leaving Lorraine amid the upcoming ITV cuts.

The beloved TV doctor, 72, has been a regular on the morning show since its inception back in 2010, on hand to share his medical advice to viewers.

However, with ITV’s Lorraine facing the brunt of the broadcaster’s cuts, Dr Hilary has now confirmed he is leaving the programme – and fans are heartbroken.

Dr Hilary Jones announces exit from Lorraine

Earlier this year, it was announced that both Lorraine and Loose Women would be impacted by some major ITV cuts, which have previously been described as a “bloodbath”.

Lorraine will see its runtime halved from 2026, airing for just 30 minutes rather than 60 (including adverts). It will also only air for 30 weeks per year, rather than the whole 52. This means the show will lose more than 100 episodes in 2026, as well as a lot of staff.

And one beloved staff member that won’t be on the show next year is Dr Hilary Jones.

“I’m still working there until December 31 and then I’m a free agent. It’s liberating from the constraints of a news programme presenter,” the TV star recently said.

‘Money is tight’

Talking to The Sun, Dr Hilary did note though that he could “come back as a guest presenter now and then”.

He added: “People are being very sensitive to the fact that some people are having to move on. A lot of people are being re-deployed elsewhere or in the same role. ITV, like everyone else, are having to make changes.”

Dr Hilary was then asked if those being made redundant would be getting a leaving party from ITV. He revealed: “It would be lovely if they did, but we will wait and see on that one because money is tight.”

Fans devastated by Dr Hilary’s news

Following the news of Dr Hilary’s Lorraine exit, fans were quick to share their thoughts – and plenty have been left gutted.

On Facebook, one person wrote: “Awww very sad. He’s very good and lovely doctor.” Another added: “Noooo we love him.”

A third chimed in: “Very sad. He was around back in the days of TV-am and the lovely Mike Morris. I grew up with him on telly. Lovely man off camera too.”

Someone else wrote: “Aww he will be missed wishing him well.” A fifth penned: “Thank you doctor Hilary for all the years you have given to the Lorraine viewers you will be missed.”
