In a new interview, Zoe Ball‘s father Johnny opened up for the first time about battling prostate cancer after being diagnosed in August 2022.
He told The Mirror: “Thankfully, after three months of daily radiation treatment, starting in the September, I’m through it, I’m fine.”
Johnny now has regular annual checks and went on to admit that he knows he is fortunate to have survived.
You’ve got to cash in on what’s wonderful about life today
He said: “My friend Harry Secombe didn’t survive it, Bob Monkhouse didn’t survive it. I’m 20 years younger than them and I am lucky, because now we can cure it.”
Star of The Goon Show Harry was 79 when he died in 2001. Meanwhile, comedian Bob died in 2003 aged 75.
Reflecting on their deaths, Johnny added to the publication: “You’ve got to cash in on what’s wonderful about life today and stop dwelling on what’s dreary and depressing.”
He also shared that he now follows a strict diet and exercise routine in a bid to stay healthy, including a “simple bending and stretching routine”.
