Jason Manford rushed to hospital in medical emergency after ‘scary’ ordeal as fans rally round

He endured an 'extremely painful' 24 hours before unplanned op

| Updated:

Jason Manford has revealed he “collapsed” as he was hospitalised during a “scary” health ordeal, which has forced the cancellation of several gigs.

Comic Jason, 44, told fans on social media he’d endured an “extremely painful” 24 hours leading up to unplanned surgery.

Earlier in the week, comedy fans were disappointed to learn Jason Manford was unable to make several performances due to “being unwell”. But now the full extent of Jason’s condition has been divulged – and worried supporters have deluged the Waterloo Road actor with best wishes for his recovery.

What happened to Jason Manford?

Statements uploaded to Jason’s social media had confirmed dates in St Albans, Oxford, Lincoln, and Skegness had been “unexpectedly cancelled”.

However, audience members were reassured that the tour shows would be rescheduled to later this year and early in 2026.

“Thank you for your understanding and we apologise for any inconvenience caused,” the messages added.

Then on Thursday (July 31) evening, Jason popped up on social media himself to give more details about his health.

Posting a pic showing him in a hospital bed and holding a clear plastic cup with a purple liquid inside, Jason confirmed he’d undergone an op.

‘Now in recovery’

Jason captioned his post: “Appendix surgery all went well, now in recovery with my Vimto, they serve it in all Manchester hospitals.”

He went on: “Bit of a scary and extremely painful 24 hours but thankful to our NHS and my incredible nurse mum who’s a godsend in a health crisis! My advice would be to not get appendicitis whilst driving at 70mph on the motorway!”

Jason continued by expressing his regret at missing the shows originally scheduled for the upcoming days.

“Seriously though, I’m gutted that I’ve had to move the dates this weekend. And I’m sorry for the late notice to so many people in St Albans, Oxford, Lincoln, Skegness, and at Kendall Calling,” he said.

He added that he thought he could ‘gut it out’ – but was informed to consider not doing so.

“I thought I could get by on antibiotics and surgery at a later date so I could still do the shows, but was advised not to,” Jason wrote.

He continued: “Also means I can’t fly out to Portugal on Monday to join my family on holiday! Ah well, such is life. Thanks for all the ‘Get Well Soon’ messages.”

And in a reply to one commenter on Instagram, Jason revealed how rapidly he became unwell.

“I was literally filming stuff until 2pm yesterday and 3pm it hit me. By 5 I had collapsed on the hospital waiting room floor! Madness,” he explained.
