She's undergoing chemotherapy

Former Strictly star Ali Bastian, who is fighting cancer, was rushed to the hospital over the weekend. Now, she’s thanked her local A&E for taking care of her while she was hospitalised.

The 42-year-old star was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in June 2024. Ali is currently undergoing chemotherapy in a local hospital in West Cork.

She shares two daughters with her husband David O’Mahony.

Ali Bastian spent the weekend at the hospital

In an Instagram story, Ali shared that she spent the weekend in the hospital.

Back home now getting some fresh air and some rest.

The screengrab of her story featured her selfie with the caption: “Thank you so much to all at Cork University Hospital A&E for taking care of me this weekend. Back home now getting some fresh air and some rest.”

Ali first consulted a doctor when she found a lump while breastfeeding her daughter Isabella. Doctors initially believed the lump was caused by a blocked duct and treated her with antibiotics.

However, when the prescribed medication did not stop the soreness, she took a few tests at a specialist clinic. It was then revealed that she had cancer.

She will undergo surgery

In an interview clip posted to her Instagram account, Ali has shared the course of action to eliminate her cancer.

She was recommended to undergo chemotherapy first and surgery later. The former Strictly star – who appeared on the show in 2009 – will undergo a mastectomy and radiotherapy early next year.

Ali plans on having reconstructive surgery. She said: “I haven’t had my appointment with the plastics team yet, and I know plenty of women stay flat and bear their scars as a mark of what they’ve been through.

“But when I think of myself in the future, I imagine myself with a body that looks familiar. Even with clothes on, I’d like my silhouette to look close to what it did before,” she continued.

The mother of two used the opportunity to thank her husband, who has been by her side through her battle against cancer and “so much more”.

“I feel really lucky to have a man like him by my side,” Ali said.
