Tom Allen said he was “total shock” after his dad died from a heart attack aged 80.

Tom, 38, presents Extra Slice and Great British Bake Off specials, and was devastated by the news.

What did Tom Allen say about his dad?

Taking to Instagram, Tom let fans know about the sad news.

He shared an image of himself, his brother and dad Paul on his 80th birthday.

Tom paid tribute to his dad and said: “I’m so sad to report that my wonderful dad has died. It was a total shock.

“He was with mum and he had a heart attack last night.

“He grew up in one room in Penge and worked hard every day of his life. He said things like ‘You can never run out of love’ and ‘Always go into everything with a good heart’.

A close relationship

Tom continued: “He was also inclined to write ‘shove it’ in a birthday card.”

“It feels like part of the grieving process that I wanted to tell you: He was a wonderful kind man and we love him very much.

“Here he is on his 80th earlier this year with me and my brother.”

Tom had lived with his parents until earlier this year.

Appearing on Lorraine, he said: “I’ve moved out, they’ve thrown me out!”

A whole host of celeb pals sent condolences to the star after they read his moving tribute.

Zoe Ball wrote: “So sorry to hear about your dear dad.

“When we met he was so charming, with a magic twinkle in his eye. Sending huge love to you T, your ma & family xxxx.”

Actress Fay Ripley said: “Tom I’m so sorry but I’m so glad you all had such a wonderful man at the heart of your family. My condolences.”

“My darling I’m so sorry to hear,” Alexandra Burke said. “I’m so so sorry. Sending you and your family so much love and prayers xxxx”
