The dad-of-one later addressed his accident on Twitter, saying: “Some good advice…

“If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time. I have broken part of my back. Thank you to everyone for your kind messages.

“And a massive thank you to all the nurses and doctors. Some of the nicest people I have ever met. Stay safe everyone. Simon.”

However, it’s believed Simon may face a difficult recovery that will involve intensive physiotherapy and a brace.

A source told The Sun: “It’s going to take him weeks, maybe months.”

Following his accident, Simon was cruelly mocked by One Direction fans who called his injury “karma” after he left his record label Syco last month.

What does this mean for BGT?

It’s not yet known what’s in store for Britain’s Got Talent following Simon’s injury.

The hit ITV show has already faced plenty of uncertainty after live shows were scrapped to the coronavirus pandemic.

Instead, the show is set to abandon its live semi-finals and run pre-recorded shows this September.

This will also allow BGT to end before Strictly Come Dancing returns to screen in October.

The finals for the show will reportedly still be filmed live with strict social distancing rules firmly in place.
