Actress is almost unrecognisable as she stars in latest adaptation of David Walliams’ novel

Can you tell who it is?

Adaptations of David Walliams’ bestselling children’s books have become a TV staple at Christmas time.

We’ve seen Gangsta Granny, The Boy In The Dress and Mr Stink and now Grandpa’s Great Escape is being brought to life.

Once again, the comedian has managed to bag an all-star cast for the show (taking one of the lead roles himself too) but you might struggle to place one of the actresses in recently revealed stills.

Absolutely Fabulous Jennifer Saunders is almost unrecognisable in one of her costumes as she takes on the part of villain Miss Dandy, the manager of an old people’s home where the book is set.

The comic will don a number of disguises as she plays the part in the festive adaptation which will air on New Year’s Day.

Meanwhile, Sir Tom Courtenay will take the title role playing a Spitfire pilot suffering with Alzheimer’s disease.

He needs the help of his grandson to escape the evil Miss Dandy and her unpleasant care home.

Jennifer, who played Eddie in Ab Fab, said she relished the chance to play the baddie.

She said: “I love playing villains – they’re so much more interesting than nice people. It’s so easy, it comes naturally.

“Miss Dandy is the sort of person you’d hope would never be in charge of an old people’s home, but great fun because of that.

“She’s a self-serving psychopath with very few redeeming features … I think the fact that her tool of choice is a cattle-prod says a lot about her mentality.”

It’s not the only time Jennifer will be on screens over Christmas.

She’ll also reunited with Dawn French for a 30th anniversary special celebrating their comic partnership called 300 Years Of French And Saunders.
